New (easier) way to enter the default settings: the lettrine package now accepts the same options as the lettrine command; they set the default parameters for the document. For instance usepackage[lines=3]{lettrine} overrides the corresponding lettrine.cfg setting and is equivalent to setcounter{DefaultLines}{3}.
