i have just installed a new version on ctan at help/uk-tex-faq, and on the web at http://www.tex.ac.uk/faq

this latest version has a few minor changes (mostly editorial in nature), and i'm only releasing it because of the changes in the structure of the macros/latex/contrib tree on ctan: the subdirectories supported/ and other/ are to disappear before i expect to have a chance to work on the faq again.
