xpdfopen provides the commands pdfopen and pdfclose, which facilitate the edit-compile-view cycle of document preparation for people working in an X11 environment.

Version 0.84 of xpdfopen adds the ability for pdfopen to specify an initial page of the PDF file to display. This works with Adobe Reader 9.x and recent versions of both xpdf and evince.
