Karl Berry submitted the
gentium-sil
package.
Version: 6.200 License: ofl
Summary description: A complete Greek font with Latin and Cyrillic, too
Announcement text: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This new gentium-sil package replaces the previous gentium-tug; gentium-sil is a redistribution of the original SIL release (https://software.sil.org/gentium/), with no changes of any kind.
Specifically, it is no longer feasible to continue with the conversion of Gentium to Type 1 that was the purpose of gentium-tug. The original character definitions have intersecting splines, and there is no way to reliably convert them to Type 1. My summary of the situation: https://tug.org/pipermail/gentium/2024q4/000072.html
Therefore all we can do here is redistribute the original TrueType fonts. (If anyone would like to come forward to create the necessary support files for pdftex to use the TrueType fonts, that would be welcome.)
Any issues and discussion about the redistribution on CTAN, etc., can be sent to the gentium@tug.org mailing list (archives and subscription at https://lists.tug.org/gentium). Problems with the fonts themselves should be reported to SIL; see info at https://software.sil.org/gentium/support.
Herbert Voss expects to release a companion gentium-ttf support package soon to provide convenient access to the font features provided in Gentium.
