a public-spirited user pointed out that one answer descended into gibberish; investigating the cause, i found a general (small) problem with the html-generation code, which i corrected. i've installed the update on http://www.tex.ac.uk/faq

in the course of making the change, i spotted a small number of minuscule updates that needed doing and typos that needed correction. i've therefore also pushed the source release to ctan (help/uk-tex-faq).

distribution-builders will find a copy formatted for them in the usual place.
