Barbara Beeton has updated her master list of hyphenation exceptions for U.S. English. The updates to the list will appear in the forthcoming issue of TUGboat. The complete list, with plurals and other variants included, is now available on CTAN, in info/digests/tugboat: ushyphex.tex - the generated list, suitable for passing to TeX tb0hyf.tex - the source for the list hyphenex.sh - the (shell/sed) script which generates the former from the latter, courtesy of Werner Lemberg.
If you actually try to input the list unaltered, you will find that it is currently over 1000 exceptions, which will overflow the limit in many distributions (e.g., TeX Live 2004). The default limit will be increased in future releases; meanwhile, for Web2C-based distributions, you can increase hyph_size in texmf.cnf (8191 is a good number).
If any questions or problems, or you find additional exceptions are needed, please email tugboa (at) tug.org. - - ----------------------------------------------------------------------
