Hello TeX folk,

The host tug.ctan.org now resolves to the new official North American redistribution site at the University of Utah, thanks to long-time TeX stalwart Nelson Beebe, Pieter Bowman, and their institution's support.

So, folks in North America (and maybe elsewhere) should consider tug.ctan.org when using an explicit CTAN host. By rsync: rsync://tug.ctan.org/CTAN/

rsync is by far the most efficient way to do transfers, but of course the site is also available by ftp and http:

ftp://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/ http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/

The Utah site is itself updated hourly, so there is no worry about stale material.

As a reminder, there is the generic redirector http://mirror.ctan.org/ which should go to an up-to-date and nearby host. We recommend using this url in articles, mailing list posts, etc., to better balance CTAN traffic. For example, http://mirror.ctan.org/systems/texlive/
