the package macros/latex/contrib/other/mpfnmark seemed to offer interesting functionality, but unfortunately had a bug that meant that in many cases it simply didn't work. the author has not responded to suggestions that the bug be mended. i therefore added a working version of the functionality to the latest version of footmisc (macros/latex/contrib/supported/footmisc), some time ago.

the ctan team has now decided that the mpfnmark package itself should be removed; it will disappear from mirrors over the next few days.

users should switch to using footmisc, instead.
