belleek fonts on ctan

I have installed Richard Kinch's belleek font set on CTAN at fonts/belleek (retrieve belleek.zip). from the README: These are the Belleek fonts described in my paper at TUG 98, the 1998 annual meeting of the TeX Users Group. They are drop-in replacements for the proprietary fonts required by the LaTeX mathtime style, where the dropping in process is simply to change the .fd files calling for specific fonts to reflect the font names starting with bl. Notwithstanding any copyright notices in the files, these fonts have been contributed to the public domain in their Type 1 (.pfb) and TrueType (.ttf) forms: blex blsy rblmi these fonts have been available via http://truetex.com for a long time; they have recently been the subject of some discussion in comp.text.tex and elsewhere, and i (and Richard) felt it appropriate to make them more readily accessible to the world. It should be installed as previously, as one archive file in CTAN:support/preview-latex, and the README file should be unpacked into that directory. License is GPL. Release focus are user interface additions and skeletons for XEmacs support (not yet working, volunteers welcome). Here is an excerpt from the README: Purpose of the package is to embed LaTeX environments such as display math or figures into the source buffers. By mouse-clicking, you can open the original text. After editing, another click will just run the region in question through LaTeX and redisplay the new results. Thr project is just starting. Current state of affairs: you need to get access to a version of Emacs 21. The public release 21.1 should be ok for starters. Pretest versions before that have problems. You also need AucTeX installed and working, and probably a fairly recent version of GhostScript. At the current point of time, XEmacs is not supported. I'd like to thank Peter Szabo for TeXtrace, Martin Weber for AutoTrace, and FontLab Ltd. for providing a copy of FontLab. It should be noted that while creating these fonts we intentionally and on principle used only automatic methods which do not require font designers talents. The aim was to use TOTALLY automatic conversion of METAFONT fonts to Type 1 format, automatic optimization and hinting, with the best achievable quality of final Type 1 fonts, to be able to re-generate the fonts if necessary (e.g. when a new version of original METAFONT fonts will be released). Undoubtedly, there are fields for improvement of this approach, which we will use in future versions of the fonts, but even now the fonts seem to look and print quite good (we hope :-). It appears that careless approach to FontLab's optimization and auto-hinting facilities could lead to loss of quality of the original font (some glyph shapes could be broken), so we used the most precise optimization, and hope that optimized and hinted fonts are indeed better than original traced fonts (also, they are significantly smaller in size). So far, we did not find any bugs in optimized fonts. Note that a small number of (fortunately, rarely used) fonts are not included yet because of the bugs in EC font drivers which prevented their generation. We plan to provide these missing fonts soon. (Currently there are 376 Type 1 font files here, of total 401.) The CM-Super package could be freely downloaded from CTAN:fonts/ps-type1/cm-super and also from ftp://ftp.vsu.ru/pub/tex/font-packs/cm-super/ (see also ftp://ftp.vsu.ru/pub/tex/README for a list of mirrors) The total size of all PFB files is about 53.3 Mb (AFM files are provided, too, for use with non-TeX applications). To install this package in teTeX or TeX Live systems, copy all Type 1 fonts (*.pfb files) to .../texmf/fonts/type1/public/cm-super/ directory and install the MAP (*.map) and ENC (*.enc) files to their usual place (e.g. under .../texms/dvips/cm-super/), and instruct dvips and pdftex to use these MAP files (e.g. using the updmap script). Do not forget to update the texmf filename database (run mktexlsr). If you wish to use the original CM germandbls (sharp s) shape, rather than the new EC one, change germandbls to germandbls.alt in t1.enc. The package is just one style file and quite simple. I have placed it in incoming/texmf of ftp.dante.de; the file is called eline.sty. I would assume that it would best be added to someplace in macros/generic, as it is coded entirely with plain TeX commands. I did not much think about the licensing issue much, so I just allow all uses and modifications, as long as a reference to the original author is kept. Also, it is made clear that no responsibility is assumed by myself. (If you think that it would be much better to just use the GPL or whatever, then please go ahead and drop me a note. I have updated CTAN:/tex-archive/biblio/bibtex/utils/bibweb to the current version on the author's website (dated Nov 10, 2000). >From the README file: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- bibweb is a utility for automatically retrieving bibliographical information from the American Mathematical Society's MathSciNet program. John Palmieri (engineer) wrote bibweb, and Bill Dwyer (idea man) helped to design it. If you're too lazy to go to the library or use a web browser to find out bibliographical information for that ground-breaking paper you're writing, you can let bibweb do the work for you. It needs recent pretest versions of GNU Emacs to work at the current point of time (at least 21.0.105) as well as AucTeX. I have uploaded to ftp.dante.de. I would recommend loading it into a separate directory support/preview-latex and extracting the file README from the archive and placing this file as well as the tar archive into that directory. The license is GPL. I append an excerpt from the README: I do not know where to start. This is the preview-latex project at Sourceforge, <URL:http://sourceforge.net/projects/preview-latex>. There is a mailing list for developers, the web page is <URL:http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/preview-latex-devel> Send a message with just the word `help' as subject or body to preview-latex-devel-request(a)lists.sourceforge.net for more information. Anonymous CVS is available as well. See the Sourceforge web pages for more information. Purpose of the package is to embed LaTeX environments such as display math or figures into the source buffers. By mouse-clicking, you can open the original text. After editing, another click will just run the region in question through LaTeX and redisplay the new results. Thr project is just starting. Current state of affairs: you need to get access to a very recent Emacs 21 version, which at the current time means that you need to be a pretester of Emacs. Versions before 21.0.105 have EPS rendering support that is defective. Direct EPS rendering is in need of improvement and very experimental, so the default setting replaces Emacs internal EPS handling by an indirect rendering mechanism. If you feel capable of helping out with Emacs' EPS interface (meaning that the APIs connecting GhostScript and viewers such as GhostView and xdvi are not a book with seven seals for you), feel free to do so. Report bugs you can reproduce along with the files needed to reproduce them. The new display engine for 21.1 is quite powerful, and some bugs still might be lurking inside. You also need AucTeX installed and working, and probably a fairly recent version of GhostScript. At the current point of time, XEmacs is not supported. This may change in future versions, depending on contributions. Offers to support further development will be appreciated. Unfortunately we can't announce such things regularly as we would have to wade through each updated package, analyse the - hopefully existent - readme files, etc. Therefore we have to trust the owners of packages mirrored to CTAN to announce their new versions by themselves. Of course we are glad if they send us a release/update notice that we can forward to CTAN-ANN. Having said all this, I should add that the LaTeX release <2001/06/01> is on CTAN for two days now. I have installed an update of the Type-1 font BrushScriptX-Italic by Maurizio Loreti in CTAN:/tex-archive/fonts/brushscr. >From the README file: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This directory contains: a Type-1 font named BrushScriptX-Italic, that simulates hand-written characters; all the files needed by LaTeX in order to use that font; a file AAA_readme.tex that fully describes the package; two example files. History: - The original (public domain) NeXT screen font has been edited, with a Type-1 font editor named TypeSmith, on an Amiga computer. The service files have been generated using the fontinst package by Alan Jeffrey. - Having TypeSmith generated a buggy font, Louis Vosloo of Y&Y, with enormous courtesy, has fixed the font in his spare time (I no longer had an Amiga computer, or a font editor of any kind). - Rolf Niepraschk submits a file pbsi.sty . - A more strict dvips (5.86e) refuses to handle the font. Rolf Niepraschk submits a fix, generated by the type1fix perl script. - Having learnt about a free Type-1 font editor called 'pfaedit' by George Williams (http://pfaedit.sourceforge.net) I have completely re-edited the font. This version contains one bug fix, plus additional support for the koma-script classes. This package provides you with a way of inserting fixme notes in documents being developped (in draft mode). Such notes can appear in the margin of the document, as index entries, in the log file and as warnings on stdout. It is also possible to summarize them in a list, and in the index. If your document is in a final version, any remaining fixme note will produce an error.
