I have uploaded the file base35.tgz to the /incoming directory at dante.ctan.org. Its contents should go into a new directory:
fonts/urw/base35
The upload occurs in accordance with the suggestions by Staszek Wawrykiewicz staw@gust.org.pl.
These are URW's PostScript Base fonts, which are provided under the GPL and usually distributed in conjunction with Ghostscript. As far as TeX is concerned, pdfTeX and other applications need them as drop-in replacements for Adobe's non-free original Base fonts. For several reasons they should, from now on, be kept on CTAN also as a collection of their own:
- There exists already at least one collection of these
fonts with incompatible extensions (or bugs?) but unchanged file names, so we need a reference distribution, which is known to work with TeX applications as usual.
- In the present collection a long-standing bug of URW's
Helvetica fonts - the wrong germandls - has been corrected. Many thanks to Primoz Peterlin, who did the work! (All other font files are exactly the same as in GNU Ghostscript 7.x and 8.00.) Note that the bug fix has not yet found its way into the Ghostscript distribution, but this should happen soon: Primoz Peterlin has contacted the GS maintainers.
- In the present collection all files are already named
according to the Karl-Berry scheme.
See the file README.base35 for more information.
Thanks for the upload. We took the liberty to put the different types of files (pfb, pfm, afm) into separate subdirectories in
fonts/urw/base35
