I want to withdraw a package I have previously submitted to CTAN. The reason for this is that there's now a superior package on CTAN that performs the same function rather better, and I want to avoid confusion among users. I have often wasted time when I have found two or three different packages that do the same job, because I have to evaluate them in order to pick the one I should use. I want to spare other users this tedium by removing my inferior package.
In my opinion my bitfield package is superseded by bytefield. I would certainly use bytefield in future rather than my package. The few features that bytefield does not provide which bitfield provides are, I think, unnecessary, and a result of my lack of understanding of typesetting.
Below is a list of what I originally uploaded:
As per README.uploads:
- what you've uploaded
bitfield.dtx, bitfield.ins
- which CTAN node you've uploaded to
cam.ctan.org
- where you want the files to go
macros/latex/contrib/supported/bitfield/
i have moved bitfield from the macros tree (it had migrated to macros/latex/contrib/bitfield) to the corresponding place on the obsolete tree, but it will remain in the incorrect place in the catalogue until that is next updated (not under my control).
