Sebastian Rahtz sent me an update for macros/xmltex (which i've installed), and asked me to delete macros/passivetex (which i've done).
he writes:
This release of xmltex is to bring it into line with the slightly enhanced version that has been distributed with PassiveTeX for the last year. Regular users should notice no difference, except that the default xmltex.cfg now turns *off* the verbose reporting.
The PassiveTeX update fixes some small problems, nothing outstanding
