It is a zip archive newlfm.zip The package is stored at macros/latex2e/contrib/supported/newlfm Here is a brief description of newlfm: Announcing newlfm.cls 3.2 (NEW Letter Fax Memo) newlfm integrates the letter class with fancyhdr and geometry to o automatically make letterhead stationary o includes support for a database for addresses; instead of putting all the information for different letters into different letters, you put it in the database, and pull it into the letter with a single command o includes support for other languages, including pig Latin o includes a number of excluded article.cls features (table, figure) o integrates support for memos and faxes within the same package o full support for positioning of items (moving the date up or down; putting the date between from and to blocks; etc.) o supports mass mailings and form letters easily and simply o prints addresses on labels. One Avery label type is set up, while others are being added. Additionally, the envlab package has been integrated into newlfm, so that all of the features of envlab are now available in newlfm o supports 3 different types of letters (standard, business) and includes full control for positioning of letter elements o has a full manual, for ease of use. i've just installed another minor update of the uk faq on ctan (help/uk-tex-faq) and on the faq web site (http://www.tex.ac.uk/faq) the changes are mostly small: a couple of corrected typos, a corrected address for the omega mailing list. the one substantial item is the first stab at listing macos x tex support (text thanks to norman gray, who actually _uses_ a mac...) XEmacs support is not yet operative, and contributions would be welcome. Due to missing image support of Emacs-21.1 under Microsoft Windows, this platform is not usable at the current point of time, either. Release focus are mostly user interface improvements. User feedback about errors and suggested feature improvements is welcome and heeded. New version of UK FAQ

i've installed a new version of the uk faq on ctan and on http://www.tex.ac.uk/faq the new version features: detailed revision of several answers rearrangement of answers to make a more logical structure a small number of new answers (including reading (la)tex files, to answer the question so many people who've been lumbered with something ask...) various changes to the web conversion system to make its management more robust the change that prompted me to take the plunge (i've been working on the new version for some time) was correcting the links to acquire miktex. i would welcome comments on what i've written (i install miktex myself, from time to time, but i know there are greater miktex experts out there...). note that the question numbers have changed (due to the rearrangement). yet again, you see the advantage of the logical addresses at the bottom of the web text of each answer in preference to the answer number. the answer mentioned above, for example, has logical address http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=readtex robin fairbairns

belleek fonts on ctan

I have installed Richard Kinch's belleek font set on CTAN at fonts/belleek (retrieve belleek.zip). from the README: These are the Belleek fonts described in my paper at TUG 98, the 1998 annual meeting of the TeX Users Group. They are drop-in replacements for the proprietary fonts required by the LaTeX mathtime style, where the dropping in process is simply to change the .fd files calling for specific fonts to reflect the font names starting with bl. Notwithstanding any copyright notices in the files, these fonts have been contributed to the public domain in their Type 1 (.pfb) and TrueType (.ttf) forms: blex blsy rblmi these fonts have been available via http://truetex.com for a long time; they have recently been the subject of some discussion in comp.text.tex and elsewhere, and i (and Richard) felt it appropriate to make them more readily accessible to the world. It should be installed as previously, as one archive file in CTAN:support/preview-latex, and the README file should be unpacked into that directory. License is GPL. Release focus are user interface additions and skeletons for XEmacs support (not yet working, volunteers welcome). Here is an excerpt from the README: Purpose of the package is to embed LaTeX environments such as display math or figures into the source buffers. By mouse-clicking, you can open the original text. After editing, another click will just run the region in question through LaTeX and redisplay the new results. Thr project is just starting. Current state of affairs: you need to get access to a version of Emacs 21. The public release 21.1 should be ok for starters. Pretest versions before that have problems. You also need AucTeX installed and working, and probably a fairly recent version of GhostScript. At the current point of time, XEmacs is not supported. Compared to the Tt2001 package, this package * covers much bigger set of fonts (all cyrillic encodings are added, and eventually also other encodings like greek and vietnamese) * has the fonts optimized and hinted * has more exact (non-INT) glyph widths and more correct parameters like ItalicAngle, Weight, isFixedPitch, etc. * has more correct (AGL-compliant) glyph names (esp. for non-EC fonts), which makes the fonts usable in non-TeX applications, too * is more compact (contains all glyphs from one font shape combined in one PFB file -- superfont). if one will use the approach with separate files for all supported encodings, the package will be 6 times bigger in size (and in number of font files). while supporting much bigger number of glyphs than Tt2001 package, the CM-Super package is even smaller! You will still need the METAFONT sources of these fonts to be able to generate needed TFM metric files (once you have them generated, METAFONT will not be used). You could also prepare EPS or PDF illustrations in your favorite applications with texts written using these fonts, and then include them in your LaTeX documents. These fonts could be used not only in TeX-related applications, but also as all other Type 1 text fonts, e.g. in Windows (and you will be able to typeset multilingual texts using them). Font file names correspond to the scheme used in EC fonts, with the first two letters sf (super font) instead of ec. E.g., sfrm1000.pfb contains all glyphs from: ecrm1000, tcrm1000, larm1000, lbrm1000, lcrm1000, rxrm1000. The third and fourth letters in the font name correspond to font shape. The set of UniqueID values was registered at Adobe. We use AGL compliant glyph names when possible (there are some glyphs which are neither present in AGL nor in Unicode). I'd like to thank Peter Szabo for TeXtrace, Martin Weber for AutoTrace, and FontLab Ltd. for providing a copy of FontLab. It should be noted that while creating these fonts we intentionally and on principle used only automatic methods which do not require font designers talents. The aim was to use TOTALLY automatic conversion of METAFONT fonts to Type 1 format, automatic optimization and hinting, with the best achievable quality of final Type 1 fonts, to be able to re-generate the fonts if necessary (e.g. when a new version of original METAFONT fonts will be released). Undoubtedly, there are fields for improvement of this approach, which we will use in future versions of the fonts, but even now the fonts seem to look and print quite good (we hope :-). It appears that careless approach to FontLab's optimization and auto-hinting facilities could lead to loss of quality of the original font (some glyph shapes could be broken), so we used the most precise optimization, and hope that optimized and hinted fonts are indeed better than original traced fonts (also, they are significantly smaller in size). So far, we did not find any bugs in optimized fonts. Note that a small number of (fortunately, rarely used) fonts are not included yet because of the bugs in EC font drivers which prevented their generation. We plan to provide these missing fonts soon. (Currently there are 376 Type 1 font files here, of total 401.) The CM-Super package could be freely downloaded from CTAN:fonts/ps-type1/cm-super and also from ftp://ftp.vsu.ru/pub/tex/font-packs/cm-super/ (see also ftp://ftp.vsu.ru/pub/tex/README for a list of mirrors) The total size of all PFB files is about 53.3 Mb (AFM files are provided, too, for use with non-TeX applications). To install this package in teTeX or TeX Live systems, copy all Type 1 fonts (*.pfb files) to .../texmf/fonts/type1/public/cm-super/ directory and install the MAP (*.map) and ENC (*.enc) files to their usual place (e.g. under .../texms/dvips/cm-super/), and instruct dvips and pdftex to use these MAP files (e.g. using the updmap script). Do not forget to update the texmf filename database (run mktexlsr). If you wish to use the original CM germandbls (sharp s) shape, rather than the new EC one, change germandbls to germandbls.alt in t1.enc.
