The University of Edinburgh's School of Mathematics has internally maintained a
LaTeX document template since around 2007, which was initially written by

rules (page margins, fonts, etc) for undergraduate and postgraduate reports and
thesis.
This was recently updated by current PhD students and staff to reflect the
current regulations and fix many long standing bugs. This updated release has
also been cleared for public distribution by the university, so we share it

Andreas Scherer submitted an update to the
cweb
bundle.
Version: 4.12
License: knuth
Summary description: A Web system in C
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This new release of CWEB comes with these new features:
* CWEAVE has a new command-line option '-F' that pulls the first
line of a 'compound statement' (aka 'block') next to the opening
curly brace. C/C++ control structures like 'if', 'while', 'for'
are /not/ treated this way, but can be forced up with the '@+'
control code as usual.
* 'do...while' loops are separated from the surrounding statements
also when 'cweave -f' is used. (Override with '@+'.)
* The `startpdf' macro (in 'cwebacromac.tex') now supports multi-page
tables-of-contents, with or without the application of the
'pdfwebtocfront.tex' macros.
* Martin Ruckert (TUG'24 in Prague) has found and fixed a performance
issue with large C/WEB programs with extensive index entries.
His new 'scan' macro (in 'cwebacromac.tex') greatly improves
the overall runtime.
* The classic macros by César Crusius (1999/2000) have been reworked
and perform 10–15 percent better for some inputs.

Summary description: Create custom periodic tables of elements
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The engine's detection mechanism (pdfLaTeX, LuaLaTeX or XeTeX)
has been changed to prevent erroneous detection when the packages
'hyperref' or 'bookmark' are loaded and the document is compiled
with LuaLaTeX - in this case, pgf-PeriodicTable disturbs the
selection of the document font.
Fixed an issue with the Chemical Symbol color when a non-rgb color
is used, such as cyan or yellow , which are defined in the xcolor
package using the cmyk model (when loaded without options).

There are no big changes here, but the change to the resistor code

- New arrow tip `Jack Tap` to help draw jack connectors
- Change the drawing of the thermocouple
- Change and enhancement to the drawing of the American resistors,
fixing a long-standing small asymmetry that nobody noticed
- Minor adjustment for joins in `viscoe` component

Oliver Beery submitted an update to the
fontscale
package.
Version number: 2.0.0 2024-08-02
License type: lppl1.3c
Summary description: A flexible interface for setting font sizes
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
## [v2.0.0] - 2024-08-02
### Changed
- This update includes many changes that are backwards incompatible.
- The documentation has been completely rewritten.
- Package description changed from A user interface for setting document font sizes to
A flexible interface for setting font sizes.
- The code no longer uses `@setfontsize`.
- The font size commands provided by this package now do nothing, except issue a warning,
if used in math mode.
- The base font size of the musical typographic scale is now set by the new key
`musical/base`.
- `PrintFontParameters` renamed to `PrintFontSizeParameters`.
- `PrintAllFontParameters` renamed to `PrintAllFontSizeParameters`.
- `PrintSampleText` uses a `+m`- instead of an `O`-type argument.
- `PrintFontSizeCommand` prints `undefined` instead of `UNDEFINED`.
- `fontscalesetup` is now removed in ` ext_purify:n`.
### Removed
- Keys `typographic-scale=modular` and `modular`.
- Key `ignore-order` (no support for using ` iny` to `Huge` in the wrong order).
- Key `reset` (very rarely used).
- Public `prop` variables for each font size command from ` iny` to `Huge`. (They are
redundant with the other public variables and programmers will very likely prefer using
their own `prop` variables.)
### Added
- `fontscalesetup` now has an optional starred argument which first resets the keys to
their initial values.
- Key `musical/base` (explained earlier).
- The package commands now issue a user-friendly error message if the font size is a zero
or negative length.
- The package commands now issue an error if the font baselineskip is less than the font
size.
- The package commands that would produce a low-level error if used in math mode now
issue a user-friendly error message instead.
### Fixed
- Now correctly checks that the package requires `LaTeX2e` version 2023-11-01 or newer.
- The keys `<font size command>` no longer incorrectly treat a `/` within a brace group
as the delimiter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary description: A LaTeX template for ASME conference papers
Announcement text:

The asmeconf class is a LaTeX template to format conference papers published by the
American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
The layout and references styles of asmeconf follow the styles requested by ASME in 2024.
Hyperlinks and pdf features are fully supported. The class includes a modern BibTeX
style, asmeconf.bst, that supports online sources, URL and DOI fields, and generates
current reference styles. This .bst can replace the old asmems4.bst.
Changes in this version include: a variety of edits and updates to the underlying code;
fixes for several issues related to language support, particularly under LuaLaTeX;
rescaling the Latin fonts under LuaLaTeX to match those in pdfTeX; and the addition of a
few new commands. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
