For a long time pdflatex has offered the command pdfannot for inserting
arbitrary PDF annotations. However, the command is presented in
a form where additional knowledge of the definition of the PDF format is
indispensable. This package is an answer to the – occasional – questions
in newsgroups, about how one could use the comment function of Adobe
Reader. At least for the writer of LATEX code, the package offers a
convenient and user-friendly means of using pdfannot to provide comments
in PDF files. Since version v1.1, pdfcomment.sty also supports:
LaTeX -> dvips -> ps2pdf, LaTeX -> dvipdfmx and XeLaTeX.
Unfortunately, support of PDF annotations by PDF viewers is sparse to
nonexistent. The reference viewer for the development of this package is
Adobe Reader.

This is the new release of the bidi package (v1.0.1). This
version has been tested by me and other people and so
contains a minimum number of bugs (or known better as XeTeX
limitations). In this version we have fixed all the known
bugs and support for lots of LaTeX packages is added. There
is no real documentation at the moment due to my illness but
if you have any question, then please ask it on the XeTeX
mailing list. There are heaps of examples that will help you
understand how this new version works and what features are
added. Unfortunately it proved almost impossible to support
hyperref and color because of XeTeX limitations. For color
support, you are encouraged to use xecolour package instead
using ordinary color and xcolor packages. Also please note
that when you use longtable package with bidi package, in
RTL mode, your tables will not break when a page is finished
and again this is due to XeTeX limitation. Please note that
you always should load bidi package as your last package.

Chinese Font Metrics is a set of font metrics for using Chinese fonts under the latex-
>dvipdfmx or pdflatex route. Note, latex->dvips is not supported since dvips can not
embed ttf. In order to use that in dvips, you should create type1 subfonts from
truetype files by your self (perhaps using ttf2pt1 or fontforge).
No actual Chinese TrueType typeface font is provided in the package. If you want to
use this package, bear in mind that a set of ttfs (like sim*.ttf distributed in Simplified
Chinese version of Windows XP) are needed for font embedding. Just copy the
sim*.ttf to corresponding directory enables you to typeset Chinese out of the box. If
you are using other fonts, you might consider adding/modifying the map lines
manually.
the package contained files in three categories :
- fonts/tfm: contained all the tfm metric files for 6 typeface (kai, song, lishu,
fangsong, youyuan, hei) in two widely used character encodings (GBK and UTF-8)
here.
- scripts: in order to make sure that all the above tfms distributed have no legal
problems (since most Chinese TrueType fonts are commercial, and converting that
using ttf2tfm might raise some legal problems) Lingyun Wu wrote a script to
generate the metrics. Lua and pltotf are used to generate the tfms, no actual ttf are
involved thanks to the fact that Chinese characters are monospace font by nature.
- fonts/map and tex/latex/zhwinfonts: default map file (for simsun.ttf, simhei.ttf,
simfang.ttf, simkai, ttf, simli.ttf and simyou.ttf. These fonts are widely used in China)
for pdftex, ttf2pk and dvipdfmx.
The package is created following Yue Wang's article. If you are interested in why this
package can do the magic, that article explains everything, available on
http://bbs.ctex.org/viewthread.php?tid=50078.

Subject: URW++ making original 35 fonts available under LPPL
I am forwarding the message below on behalf of Peter Rosenfeld, Managing
Director of URW++, who has kindly agreed to make the basic 35 PostScript
fonts also available under the LPPL. At his request, I'll be
disseminating the information throughout the TeX community.
Many thanks to Dr. Rosenfeld!
Many thanks are also due to Karl Berry, TUG President, for his unswerving
support and advice and Bogus{}aw Jackowski, lead TeX Gyre developer,
for pushing the issue.
Best,
Jerzy

Subject: URW++ original 35 fonts available under LPPL
To whom it may concern,
Many years ago, URW++ Design and Development Inc. released their
Type 1 implementations of the basic 35 PostScript fonts under the
GNU General Public License and the Aladdin Ghostscript Free Public
License.
We now additionally release them under the LaTeX Project Public License
(http://www.latex-project.org/lppl), either version 1 or (at your
option) any later version.
Of course, this additional licensing applies to the original URW++
material, not any subsequent changes and additions made by other
parties.
The original font files are widely available, for instance as part of
the Ghostscript 4.00 release, and therefore we are not releasing any new
font files. Those interested can replace the license terms in those
original files accordingly. Responsibility for ensuring that no
material is incorrectly licensed remains with the distributor, as
always.
We hope this additional licensing will make our fonts even more widely
available and usable in the free software community, such as the TeX
Gyre Project.
Sincerely,
Peter Rosenfeld (Managing Director, URW++)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
As Ian Green's recycle.readme states, recycle.mf is awful code and
doesn't even put the logo in a box (properly). In practical terms,
this means that recycle.mf produces a number of Metafont Inconsistent
equation errors, which break many of the scripts that process
Metafont fonts. Fortunately, running Metafont manually and forcing it
to ignore errors does seem to produce valid output.
To ease the pain of using the recycling symbol in (La)TeX documents
and to enable the recycling symbol to look good at arbitrary scale I
hereby provide recycle.pfb, a PostScript Type 1 version of recycle.mf.
recycle.pfb was produced by running recycle.mf through mf2pt1 and
tweaking the resulting Type 1 font in FontForge to relocate a few
control points to integral coordinates and to remove a
self-intersecting path.

On Fri, 26 Jun 2009, Mojca Miklavec and Arthur Reutenauer submitted an update to
the
hyph-utf8
package.
Modern native UTF-8 engines such as XeTeX and LuaTeX need hyphenation patterns
in UTF-8 format, whereas older systems require hyphenation patterns in the 8-bit
encoding of the font in use (such encodings are codified in the LaTeX scheme
with names like OT1, T2A, TS1, OML, LY1, etc).
The present package offers a collection of conversions of existing patterns to
UTF-8 format, together with converters for use with 8-bit fonts in older
systems. Since hyphenation patterns for TeX are only read at iniTeX time, it is
hoped that the UTF-8 patterns, with their converters, will completely supplant
the older patterns.

On Wed, 24 Jun 2009, Stephan Hennig submitted an update to the
dehyph-exptl
package.
Location on CTAN: /language/hyphenation/dehyph-exptl
Summary description: experimental hyphenation patterns for the German language
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This package provides experimental hyphenation patterns for
the German language, covering traditional and reformed
orthography for several varieties of Standard German. The
patterns can be used with packages Babel and hyphsubst from
the Oberdiek bundle.
Dieses Paket enthaelt experimentelle Trennmuster fuer die
deutsche Sprache.
2009-06-24: v0.20
-----------
Aenderungen:
* allgemein:
** Die Trennung von Zahlwoertern wurde verbessert.
** Die roemischen Zahlen bis MMD (2500) werden nicht getrennt.
** Viele zusaetzliche irrefuehrende Trennungen werden vermieden.
** Viele Fehler in der Wortdatenbank wurden korrigiert.
** Die Dokumentation wurde erweitert.
* dehypht-x (traditionelle Rechtschreibung, Deutschland, Oesterreich):
* dehyphts-x (traditionelle Rechtschreibung, Schweiz):
Babelunterstuetzung fuer
diese Trennmuster fehlt bisher jedoch. Wer machts?
