Stephan Hennig submitted an update to the
spelling
package.
Summary description: support for spell-checking of LuaTeX documents
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This package supports spell-checking of TeX documents
compiled with the LuaTeX engine. It can give visual
feedback in PDF output similar to WYSIWYG word
processors. The package relies on an external
spell-checker application that can check a plain text
file and output a list of bad spellings. The package
should work with most spell-checkers, even dumb,
TeX-unaware ones.
v0.4 (2013-05-23)
New features:
- In addition to lists of bad and good spellings,
words can be checked against user-defined match
rules to determine highlighting status.
Changes:
- Removed means to configure EOL character of text
output file. Standard Lua EOL character is always
used, which is platform dependent.
- Improved compatibility with recent LuaTeX versions
(v0.74 and newer).
- File <jobname>.spell.xml is loaded before file
<jobname>.spell.bad (if both files exist).
Fixes:
- Bad words with surrounding punctuation haven't been
highlighted. Determining whether a word needs to be
highlighted is now done by checking against the
lists of bad and good spellings words as they
appear in the document with possible punctuation as
well as with all surrounding punctuation stripped
(GitHub issue 8).
- Macro spellingoutputlinelength was broken.
- Raising an error when a file cannot be opened for
reading causes problems when compiling a document
for the first time. Now, only a warning is written
to the console and log file in that case.

wheretotrim

Summary description: Help reduce page count by suggesting where to trim text
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
wheretotrim is a Perl script and auxiliary LaTeX package
that helps LaTeX users reduce their document's page count.
It is intended to be used with documents that exceed a
publisher's specified page-length limitation by a small
amount (much less than a full column or page). wheretotrim
reports the page and column on which the least amount of
text needs to be trimmed to reduce the page count. It works
by repeatedly rebuilding the given document, analyzing the
benefit of trimming from each column or page one line of
text, then two, then three, and so forth until the
document's page count decreases.
wheretotrim has been tested only on Linux. It might work on
OS X. It probably won't work on Windows.

Rainer Schöpf
Walter Daems submitted an update to the
exsol
package.
Summary description: The package facilitates typesetting exercises and solutions from one LaTeX source to a separate solutions book.
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The exsol package provides macros to allow for embedding exercises and solutions
in the LaTeX source of an instructional text (e.g., a book or a course text)
while generating the following separate documents:
- your original text that only contains the exercises, and
- a solution book that only contains the solutions to the exercises (a package option exists to also copy the exercises themselves to the solution book).
The former is generated when running LaTeX on your document. This run writes the
solutions to a secondary file that can be included into a simple document
harness, such that when running LaTeX on the latter, you can generate a nice
solution book.
The code of the exsol package was taken almost literally from fancyvrb [http://www.ctan.org/pkg/fancyvrb].
Therefore, all credits go to the authors/maintainers of fancyvrb.
