An alpha channel in the PNG file can be used to mix against a specified background color and/or to create a PDF image mask or PDF alpha channel. An option -n or --interpolation was created to add an /Interpolate true entry to the image dictionary. This suggests PDF viewers to show an interpolated image on screen. Previous versions possibly crashed/dumped core when problems occured while reading PNG files. The libpng routines use the setjmp()/longjmp() mechanism on errors but png2pdf did not set up a jump buffer. It can produce EPS levels 1, 2 and 3. Level 2 allows the use of run-length compression and ASCII-85-encoding instead of ASCII-Hex-encoding, while level 3 allows the use of flate compression. TIFF- and PNG-alpha channels can be converted into EPS level 3 image masks. Modified dvips sources are included to allow image conversion directly from dvips. They are also minilofs and minilots. At the part level, they are parttocs, partlofs and partlots. If the type of document does not use chapters, they are section level secttocs, sectlofs and sectlots. CTAN update: FPL Fonts

On Sun, 13 Feb 2005 Ralf Stubner submitted version 1.002 of the FPL fonts package. The FPL Fonts provide a set of SC/OsF fonts for URW Palladio L which are compatible with respect to metrics with the Palatino SC/OsF fonts from the original Adobe fonts. The SC and OsF in the FPL Fonts were designed with the glyphs from URW Palladio L as starting point. For some glyphs (eg 'o') I got the best result by scaling and boldening. For others (eg 'h') shifting selected portions of the character gave more satisfying results. All this was done using the free font editor FontForge (http://fontforge.sf.net). The kerning data in these fonts comes from Walter Schmidt's improved Palatino metrics. Strzelczyk License: GPL Location on CTAN: support/pstools/tif2eps TIF2EPS is a PostScript program for the conversion of TIFF files (ver. 6.0) to EPS ones. Compression (LZW, CCITT Fax, RLE, Flate, DCT) and ASCII85 encoding is available. The package may be used for generating colour- separated EPSes, `EPS thumbnails,' and, moreover, little header EPSes, containing only a pointer to a source TIFF file. It tries to be clever at this and won't mark something if it thinks it shouldn't, ie. \[10mm] won't be marked as changed if it was \[8mm]. The number of commands and environments it knows is small (the ones I use in my game design) and include some of my own, which might lead to strange behaviour or even crashes or endless loops - being able to interrupt the program(me) with CTRL+C comes in handy in such cases - if you use commands/environments of the same name but different definition. An other diff program(me) may be used if it has the switches -b, -B, -d, and -E and they are compatible to GNU Diff's. Antykwa Torunska is a serif font designed by the late Polish typographer Zygfryd Gardzielewski, reconstructed and digitized as as Type 1. Font author: Janusz Marian Nowacki Location on CTAN: fonts/antt License: GPL The current distribution (ver. 2.02) contains slightly corrected Polish diacritical letters in caps and small caps. CTAN update notification: FPL Fonts

On Sat, 5 Feb 2005 Ralf Stubner submitted an update to his fpl fonts. The FPL Fonts provide a set of SC/OsF fonts for URW Palladio L which are compatible with respect to metrics with the Palatino SC/OsF fonts from Adobe. Note that it is not my aim to exactly reproduce the outlines of the original Adobe fonts. The SC and OsF in the FPL Fonts were designed with the glyphs from URW Palladio L as starting point. For some glyphs (eg 'o') I got the best result by scaling and boldening. For others (eg 'h') shifting selected portions of the character gave more satisfying results. All this was done using the free font editor FontForge (http://fontforge.sf.net). The kerning data in these fonts comes from Walter Schmidt's improved Palatino metrics. For compatibility reasons, references are no longer used for the accented characters in the SC font. On Sun, 6 Feb 2005 Uwe Lück submitted an update to his ednotes package. Ednotes is a macro package for typesetting scholarly critical editions. Provides macros for critical edition typesetting with LaTeX including support for line numbers and layers of footnotes. Fix of warnings that turned into undefined errors. 2.) EdnoTUGb.pdf now acknowledges that the most recent version of LEDMAC reported is v0.6 (e.g.: if you want to tell somebody ...). BTW: Roy Flechner succeeded in producing oscillating page breaks with pagewise line numbering.
