Summary description: Produce PostScript Type 1 fonts from Metafont source License type: lppl Announcement text: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mf2pt1 facilitates producing PostScript Type 1 fonts from a Metafont source file. mf2pt1's advantage over tools such as TeXtrace and mftrace is that it does not rely on bitmap tracing and therefore can produce higher-quality Type 1 fonts than trace-based tools. The catch is that mf2pt1 imposes some restrictions on the Metafont input so it is not, as the name may imply, an automatic converter of arbitrary Metafont fonts to Type 1 format. Version 2.4.5 incorporates a bug fix from Werner Lemberg that prevents non-INT arguments from being passed to hsbw in the definition of .notdef. I'm very sorry for any inconvenience. Other changes are listed below: * Command names are now `protected`; this makes them safe to use in moving arguments and so on * Similarly to the change in v0.5c, the main math font is now loaded in math family zero (equiv. to LaTeX's `operators` math font) * `mathring` added * Ensure that a math font has been selected in order to prevent problems in minimal documents (this will be unnecessary when the OpenType LM math font is released) * Documentation for which was which of epsilon/varepsilon was backwards! [tex-live] TeX Live 2011 release available

Karl Berry writes: We've gone ahead with the network release of TeX Live 2011 (as some people have already noticed :). It is now or will be soon available from CTAN sites (http://mirror.ctan.org/systems/texlive). As with last year, we recommend doing a network install in one way or another instead of downloading the large (2+gb) .iso -- see http://tug.org/texlive/acquire.html for a discussion of the various alternatives. Package updates will restart in another day or two. If anyone notices stale or missing information on the TL web pages, or problems with the release, please report as usual. MacTeX 2011 (http://tug.org/mactex) and proTeXt 3.0 for 2011 (http://tug.org/protext) have also been released and are available from CTAN. License type: lppl Announcement text: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The bytefield package helps the user create illustrations for network protocol specifications and anything else that utilizes fields of data. These illustrations show how the bits and bytes are laid out in a packet, register, or memory. Version 2.1 of bytefield includes code due to Renaud Pacalet for continuing the bit numbering when a word is typeset split across lines; it gives \ an optional length argument just like in a tabular; and it makes bit endianness a full-fledged bytefield option that can be specified once per document rather than requiring that it be specified in each individual bytefield environment (although that too is allowed). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This package is located at http://mirror.ctan.org/macros/latex/contrib/bytefield .
