The LaTeX3 Project submitted an update to the
l3kernel + l3packages + l3experimental
packages.
Version number: SVN 5015
License type: lppl
Summary description: Higher-level LaTeX3 concepts
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Snapshot of SVN 5105
====================
Changes in this release focus primarily on minimising
dependency of expl3 on other packages and on having consistent
behaviour across the supported engines (pdfTeX, XeTeX, LuaTeX).
The team have developed a new build system to support this:
while this does not 'show up' directly, it has resulted in a
number of code improvements. The build system itself will be
made generally available as a stand-alone product in the near
future: full details will be given at that point.
Changes:
- Use expl3 native graphic drivers as standard rather than
those from LaTeX2e
- Move experimental l3luatex code out of l3kernel: this
requires more work before inclusion in the 'stable' release
bundle
- Remove use of ifpdf package: with the standard settings,
expl3 now requires only the LaTeX2e kernel and etex package
to load
- pdf_strcmp:D is now only defined if a primitive: an internal
wrapper \__str_if_eq_x:nn is now used for all engines
(similar to pdf@strcmp in the pdftexcmds package)
- Bug fix for pdfstrcmp emulation in LuaTeX: # tokens are now
handled correctly in all cases
- Bug fixes for native drivers: negative scaling and descender
depths are now handled correctly
- Bug fix for l3keys: attempting to 'nest' choice keys (set the
code for a choice to itself be a choice) raises an error
- l3file now allows spaces in file names and quotes them in
the web2c style: surround tokens only if the file name
contains spaces
- Performance enhancement for l_if_single:n(TF)
- int_step_... functions now evaluate all three INT
arguments at the start of the loop
- dim_to_pt:n/dim_to_unit:nn are now fully expandable; the
input syntax is now restricted to 'properly formed' dimensions
(i.e. exactly one unit must be given)
- l3fp-old, which contained some code to support the older,
non-expandable FPU syntax, is removed entirely
- gind.ist is used for index sorting rather than l3doc.ist
- Improved error messages in l3regex
----------------------------------------------------------------------

i've released version 3.28 of the uk tex faq.
users may view its sources, printable versions, etc., at
http://mirror.ctan.org:help/uk-tex-faq -- or they may access it (sort of) ineractively via
http://www.tex.ac.uk/faq
i retire soon: when i do, i shall probably not have access to the server
that has served this faq since 1995 (or so). so this is probably the last
ever release of this faq in its present form.

The LaTeX3 Project submitted an update to the
l3kernel & l3packages & l3experimental
packages.
Version number: SVN 4742
License type: lppl
Summary description: LaTeX3 Programming Conventions
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Snapshot of SVN 4742
====================
The major change in this snapshot is allowing expl3 to be
loaded using formats other than LaTeX2e:
input expl3-generic %
This allows the 'programming' layer to be used in a
format-neutral way.
Minor changes to the bundle include:
- Further improvements to native driver code
- Improve handling of class options by l3keys2e
- Fix nesting of keys_set_known:nnN
- Various documentation tweaks and typo fixes
There is also one removal from l3experimental: l3dt/xmetadata
is dropped as while some of the ideas are useful, the existing
implementation is too slow to be useful.

Scott Pakin submitted an update to the
mf2pt1
package.
Version number: 2.5a
License type: lppl
Summary description: Produce PostScript Type 1 fonts from Metafont
source.
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
mf2pt1 facilitates producing PostScript Type 1 fonts from a Metafont
source file. mf2pt1's advantage over tools such as TeXtrace and
mftrace is that it does not rely on bitmap tracing and therefore can
produce higher-quality Type 1 fonts than trace-based tools. The catch
is that mf2pt1 imposes a number of restrictions on the Metafont input
so it is not, as the name may imply, an automatic converter of
arbitrary Metafont fonts to Type 1 format.
Version 2.5a is simply a documentation update in preparation for TeX
Live 2014.

Version number: 1.07l

Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The previous release added a tocloft compatibility layer which however
broke memoir class compatibility (the memoir compatibility testing for
that release had been done before modifying the source code for tocloft
compatibility...). This is fixed here, as well as the related (but less
crippling) issue of the etoc tocvsec2 compatibility layer: nothing
special needs to be done under memoir's version of tocvsec2, contrarily
to the situation with the original package. Caveat: there still has not
been intensive testing of etoc under memoir class, so possibly some
other issues may arise at some point. Bug reports will be welcome.

Charles Staats III submitted the
asypictureB
package.
Version number: 0.3
License type: lppl1.3
Summary description: User-friendly integration of Asymptote into LaTeX
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The asypictureB package is an unofficial alternative to the asymptote
package for creating Asymptote pictures within a latex source file.
While it does not duplicate all the features of the official package,
it is more user-friendly in several ways. Most notably, Asymptote
errors are repackaged as LaTeX errors, making debugging less of a pain.
It also has a more robust mechanism for identifying unchanged pictures
that need not be recompiled.

Christian Schneider submitted an update to the
ionumbers
package.
Version number: v0.3.3
License type: gpl
Summary description: Restyle numbers in maths mode
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This update fixes a problem with MnSymbol (and potentially
other packages changing the font in math mode).
Ionumbers assigns macro definitions to certain characters in
math mode. Previously, the original mathcodes of these
characters were hard-coded into ionumbers and did not match
those defined by MnSymbol. For example, '-' in the input
turned into '+' in the output, if used with MnSymbol. The
update uses the mathcodes that the characters have at the
beginning of the document instead.
Thanks to Michael Sebastian Hitziger for reporting this problem.
