Depending on the intended use, high resolution is often overkill. You do not need 600 dpi for a document that is intended for a presentation with a projector. pdflatexpicscale offers a (hopefully) convenient way to produce PDF files from your LaTeX documents that take intended target resolutions into account. It is possible to produce several sets of resolutions.
