For the CTAN team
I am offline, pending an improvement of conditions. This includes
tug.ctan.org, www.ctan.org, and az.ctan.org on the interfaces http, ftp,
and rsync.
In case I do not come back, I would like to thank the people that I have
enjoyed working with over the years. I would also like to thank the TeX
Users Group, including the board and particularly including Karl, for
their sponsorship. And, I would be remiss if I didn't again acknowledge
the support provided by Saint Michael's College to me, and to the entire
TeX community, in bearing the Internet traffic.

Name of contribution: bytefield
Version number: 2.0
Author's name: Scott Pakin
Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/bytefield/
Summary description: Draw network-protocol specifications and other bit-field
representations
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The bytefield package helps the user create illustrations
for network protocol specifications and anything else that
utilizes fields of data. These illustrations show how the
bits and bytes are laid out in a packet or in memory.
Version 2.0 improves the user interface, albeit in a
non-backwards-compatible way. The package now uses a
key=value interface to specify formatting parameters either
globally or local to an individual diagram; rows are now
grouped using a more LaTeX-like syntax; and there are more
opportunities for customizing the appearance of a diagram.

Caption: PSTricks package for drawing electric circuits.
Description: Pst-circ is a package built using PSTricks and in
particular pst-node. It can easily draw current 2-terminal devices
and some 3- and 4-terminal devices used in electronic or electric
theory. The package’s macros are designed with a view to ‘logical’
representation of circuits, as far as possible, so as to relieve the
user of purely graphical considerations when expressing a circuit.

Name of contribution: sty2dtx
Version number: v1.0
Author's name: Martin Scharrer
Location on CTAN: /support/sty2dtx
Summary description: Perl script to add a .sty to a .dtx file (code section only)
License type: gpl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Converts a .sty file (LaTeX package) to .dtx format
(documented LaTeX source),
by surrounding macro definitions with 'macro' and
'macrocode' environments.
The macro name is automatically inserted as an argument to
the 'macro'
environemnt.
Code lines outside macro definitions are wrapped only in
'macrocode'
environments. Empty lines are removed.
The script is not thought to be fool proof and 100% accurate
but rather
as a good start to convert undocumented style file to .dtx
files.
It does not generate a complete .dtx file, just the code
section.

Description: The package produces screen/log messages of the form
‘<current> INPUTTING <next>’ reporting LaTeX input commands (<current>
and <next> being file names). The message is indented to reflect the
level of input nesting.
Tracing may be turned on and off, and the unit of indentation may be
adjusted.

Update summary:
The new version adds support for optional arguments, and for having
several arguments.
e.g., one can put verbatim both in a section title, and in the short
title for the toc:
cprotectsection[Some verb+^&*+]{Longer verb+$%^&*+}
Nesting is also supported.
Basic package information, as sent by the contributor.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: /macros/latex/contrib/cprotect
Author: Bruno Le Floch
License: lppl1.3
Caption: Allow verbatim, etc., in macro arguments.
Description: The package defines the macro 'cprotect' that makes a
following macro proof against verbatim in its argument; as, for
example, 'cprotectsection{verbfoo}'
A similar macro 'cprotEnv' (applied to the 'egin' of an
environment) sanitises the behavior of fragile environments.
Moving arguments, and corresponding tables of … work happily.
* The new version supports macros with optional arguments, or with
several arguments. These have to be declared, as in
cprotect[om]sqrt[verb+%1+]{ verb+%3+ }.
*Nesting is supported:
cprotectsection{$cprotect[mm]frac{verb+%1+}{verb+%2+}$}.
