installation happened last night, so the package is well on its way
around the globe; the catalogue entry itself will be updated overnight.

I apologize; there was an outage on the machine that houses
http://www.ctan.org and ftp://tug.ctan.org and I was unaware so it was
down for some time. I believe that it is fixed now.
It seems that someone went in my ceiling and did something bad to my
power. Fortunately, the power strip died to save the box, and the box
appeared to come back up fine.
Power strip, we salute you!

i've installed the package and updated the catalogue. users may view
the catalogue entry at
http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/pst-diffraction.html
or browse the package directory at
http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/graphics/pstricks/contrib/pst-diffraction/
(note that the documentation files are rather painfully large, and thus
the zip of that directory is also pretty huge.)
thank you, herbert and manuel, for the new package.

On Fri, 7 Sep 2007, Axel Sommerfeldt submitted an update to
the
caption
package.
Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/caption/
Summary description: Customising captions in floating environments
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an improved and enhanced version of the caption package 3.
It was adapted to the AMS, beamer, KOMA, NTG, and SMF document classes,
the french babel & the frenchle/pro packages; furthermore it supports
the floatflt, fltpage, picinpar, picins, threeparttable, and wrapfig
package now.
Additionally it's now more compatible to version 1.x of the caption
package than its precursor. Due to an internal change on how it patches
the caption relevant commands, it's also more compatible to the document
classes and packages it supports now (and offers an integrated hypcap
functionality), but unfortunately also more incompatible to the ones it
does not support (yet). Please read the doc for details.

floatrow
package.
Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/floatrow
Summary description: Modifying the layout of floats
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The floatrow package provides many ways to customize layouts of
floating environments and has code cooperation with caption 3.x
package. Package offers possibilities to put floats side by
side, to put caption beside float. The floatrow settings could
be expanded to the floats created by packages rotating, wrapfig,
subfig (in the case of rows of subfloats), and longtable.
Changes:
Bug fixes and preparation for cooperation with caption 3.1.
Documentation was extended by examples.

Name of contribution: pst-optexp
Author's name: Christoph Bersch
Location on CTAN: /graphics/pstricks/contrib/pst-optexp
Summary description: A PSTricks package to draw optical experimental setups
License type: lppl
Announcement text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The package pst-optexp is a collection of optical components
that facilitate easy sketching of optical experimental
setups. Mechanisms for proper alignment of different components are
provided internally. This way the user does not have to care for proper
orientation of the elements.
Changes in v1.1:
* Considerably enhanced labeling of the components.
Added new parameter 'labelref' which specifies the
reference coordinate system for the label positioning
and the rotation of the label. Default is labelref=relgrav,
the label point is rotated together with the component, but
the label text itself is not rotated.
* parameter labelrelative is now obsolete, and replaced by
labelref=relative. It will be removed in future versions.
* parameter polwidth, bswidth, iwidth and owidth are now obsolete,
and replaced by polsize, bssize, innerheight and outerheight for
consistency reasons. They will be removed in future versions.
* macro polarisation was changed to polarization for consistency
reasons. The old notation is obsolete and will be removed in future
versions.
* fixed bug: filling of all components with 'fillstyle' is now possible.
* fixed bug: added some liftpen=1 in the code to fix the look of
the lenses and the optgrid.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
This package allows you to make citations in the German style, which
is considered by many to be particularly reader-friendly. The citation
provides a small amount of bibliographic information in a footnote on
the page where each citation is made. It combines a desire to
eliminate unnecessary page-turning with the look-up efficiency afforded
by numeric citations.
