CTAN Update: TeXshade v1.16

On Mon, 19 Feb 2007, Eric Beitz submitted an update to the texshade package. TeXshade is an alignment shading software completely written in TeX/LaTeX which can process multiple sequence alignments in the .MSF and the .ALN file format. It provides in addition to common shading algorithms special shading modes featuring functional aspects, e.g. charge or hydropathy, and a plenitude of commands for handling shading colours, text styles, labels, legends and even allows the user to define completely new shading modes. TeXshade combines highest flexibility and the habitual TeX output quality-with reasonable time expenditure. CTAN Update: mathspic 1.10

On Mon, 19 Feb 2007 Apostolos Syropoulos submitted an update to the mathspic package. MathsPIC(Perl) is a development of the earlier MathsPIC(DOS) program, now implemented as a Perl script, being much more portable than the earlier program. MathsPIC parses a plain text input file and generates a plain text output-file containing commands for drawing a diagram. Version 1.0 produces output containing PiCTeX and (La)TeX commands, which may then be processed by plain TeX or LaTeX in the usual way. MathsPIC also outputs a comprehensive log-file. MathsPIC facilitates creating figures using PiCTeX by providing an environment for manipulating named points and also allows the use of variables and maths (advance, multiply, and divide)-in short-it takes the pain out of PiCTeX. Both the original DOS version and the new Perl version are available. CTAN has a new package: xgreek

On Thu, 15 Feb 2007, Apostolos Syropoulos submitted the XeLaTeX package xgreek to CTAN. This package has been designed so to allow people to typeset Greek language documents using XeLaTeX. And it is released in the hope that people will use it and spot errors, bugs, features so to improve it. Practically, it provides all the capabilities of the greek option of the babel package. The package can be invoked with any of the following options: monotonic (for typesetting modern monotonic Greek), polytonic (for typesetting modern polytonic Greek), and ancient (for typesetting ancient texts). The default option is monotonic. The command setlanguage{lang} to activate the hyphenation patterns of the lang. This, however, can be done only if the format file has not been built with the babel mechanism. The package is beta software and it is hoped that users will provide input so to improve it. The epsdice package defines a single command epsdice that takes a numeric argument (in the range 1-6), and selects a face image from a file that contains each of the 6 possible die faces. The graphic file is provided in both Encapsulated PostScript and PDF formats. Location on CTAN: /macros/latex/contrib/dvdcoll Summary description: A class for typesetting DVD archives License type: lppl Announcement text: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Having lost the overview of my DVD archives, I simply could not remember if I already recorded the documentary running on TV that day. I chose to recreate the index using LaTeX: the design aim was a hyperlinked and fully searchable PDF-document listing my DVDs with all titles, contents, lengths and so on. Further requirements were support for seasons of tv series and a list with all faulty or missing programs for rerecording. The dvdcoll class supports all these requirements. dvdcoll.cls follows the structure <number><title><length>. As a result, the class is not limited to DVDs - you can of course typeset archives of CD-ROMs, Audio-CDs and so on. Supported languages at the moment: English, French, German. Some help is needed for other languages! ;-) License: LPPL new in v0.7: - new feature: listofdvds dvdcoll.cls now offers the possibility to produce a list of dvds. Therefore dvdcoll.cls will - on-the-fly - generate a database in BibTeX format. A BibTeX run with a specially adapted BibTeX style (dcbib.bst) will produce a sorted-by-key(=label) list, which will be included in another run of (pdf)latex. - several new command options (DvdSeries: labelbase,labelbaseprefix, labelbasesuffix, labelbaselength) were implemented for automatic generation of labels, e.g. RW0001, RW0002, ... - some minor improvements ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This package is located at http://dante.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/dvdcoll .
