This is a set of macros for drawing high-quality line diagrams to include in TeX, LaTeX, or similar documents. The macros were originally intended for electric circuit diagrams containing fundamental elements, amplifiers, transistors, and basic logic gates, but several tools and examples of other types of diagrams are also included. Elements can be scaled or drawn in any orientation, and are easy to modify. The advantages and disadvantages of such a system are similar to those of TeX itself, which is macro-based and non-wysiwyg, with ordinary character input. The macros are to be processed by m4, and evaluate to drawing commands in the pic little language, which is easy to read and learn. Pic is well suited to line drawings requiring parametric or conditional components, fine tuning, significant geometric calculations or repetition, or to drawings that are naturally block structured or tree structured. Arbitrary formatted text can be included. Free TeX- and LaTeX-compatible interpreters for m4 and pic are readily available. ... Changes in CTAN directory fonts/psfonts (and its descendents)

fonts/psfonts was created long ago, when fontinst was new, and computers were so slow that running it (let alone preparing to run it) was a serious undertaking. The metrics created back then, kept on ctan in directories fonts/psfonts/(adobe|xadobe|monotype|xmono), have been extremely useful, over the years. However, they don't match modern ideas about using the commercial fonts they support. We now have a modern set of metrics, provided and maintained by Walter Schmidt, which substantially replace the old metrics. Therefore, we have deleted the directories fonts/psfonts/(adobe|xadobe|monotype|xmono) New directories are: fonts/psfonts/ly1 metrics for the basic 35 fonts set, using ly1 encoding fonts/psfonts/psnfss-metrics links to metrics for the basic 35 fonts set, using T1/TS1 encodings (and a set of pk files for the same fonts) fonts/psfonts/w-a-schmidt metrics for other commercial fonts fonts/psfonts/ly1 and fonts/psfonts/psnfss-metrics contain files and links that were previously in fonts/psfonts itself. Some README files remain to be updated/written, but we believe the changes will make life less confusing for users. Robin Fairbairns For the CTAN team

On Mon, 20 Sep 2004, Harald Harders submitted version 1.2 of the miller package. This package is used to typeset miller indices, e.g., <1-20>, used in material sicence with an easy syntax. On Mon, 20 Sep 2004, Ulf Lindgren submitted a new version of the fncychap package to CTAN. This version contains bug fixes and inclusion of patch. This package provides six predefined chapter headings. Each can be modified using a set of simple commands.
