New CTAN package: MnTTeX- Tools for Typesetting the Secret History of the Mongols

Name of contribution: MnTTeX- Tools for Typesetting the Secret History of the Mongols Author's name: Oliver Corff Location on CTAN: /language/mongolian/MNT Summary description: The Package assists in typing the special Chinese characters used in the Secret History of the Mongols License type: lppl Announcement text: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The Secret History of the Mongols (Monggol-un niguca tobciyan -> MNT) is the oldest work of Mongolian literature surviving today. Though the language of the text is Middle Mongolian, the text was written entirely in Chinese characters which were used to render Mongolian phonetically. Modern tools for typing, editing and typesetting Chinese do not easily lend themselves for preparing research documentation due to pecularities of the historical source. The MNTTeX package assists the scholar typesetting the complex Chinese material by accessing all characters either by number or pronounciation as well as offering convenient access to small or combined characters. The MNTTeX package relies on an existing environment for processing Chinese characters and assumes that the package CJK is installed. Furthermore it is required to use the font zysong.ttf or a similar font in Song style.Since not all characters used in the MNT are provided by modern fonts they had to be made for this package. Being closely modelled according to Song style, these especially made characters would stand out in stark contrast from e.g. Kaiti style character sets. Limited in number, these individual characters were coded as scalable vector images, rather than as font. No difference between these characters and ordinary characters can be perceived in print even though the on-screen display may appear hardly intelligible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for the upload. CTAN update: C.D.P. Bundle

On Wed, 22 Dec 2004 Gustavo Mezzetti uploaded version 0.33 of the C.D.P. bundle. The C.D.P. Bundle can be used to typeset high-quality business letters formatted according to Italian style conventions. It is highly configurable, and its modular structure provides you with building blocks of increasing level, by means of which you can compose a large variety of letters. It is also possible to write letters divided into sections and paragraphs, to include floating figures and tables, and to have the relevant indexes compiled automatically. A single input file can contain several letters, and each letter will have its own table of contents, etc., independant from the other ones. On Wed, 22 Dec 2004 Martin Schröder uploaded the new version 1.20b of pdftex to CTAN. pdftex is an extension of TeX which directly generates PDF documents instead of DVI. Most TeX distributions, including teTeX, fpTeX and miktex include pdftex and pdflatex. CTAN submission: Ibycus 4, release 4.5

On Tue, 21 Dec 2004, Walter Schmidt uploaded the new release 4.5 of the Ibycus 4 system, a collection of fonts and macros to typeset ancient Greek. This upload occurs in agreement with the original author if Ibycus, Pierre MacKay. Location on CTAN: fonts/greek/ibygrk Main news (see also the file NEWS in the distribution): The bold Ibycus font is now available in Postscript format. It was converted from Metafont to Type1 by Harald Harders. The regular Ibycus Type1 font should work flawlessly with Acrobat Reader 5 now; special thanks to Peter Heslin and Ralf Stubner, who succeeded to find and fix a long-standing bug. Virtual fonts and related font metrics are no longer needed. Fixed definition of the macro greek, so as to work also with default font encodings other than OT1. New text-generating command extgreek as a counterpart to the declaration greek. Improved installation intructions which should suit recent TeX systems. CTAN update: leaflet v1.0c

On Mon, 20 Dec 2004 Rolf Niepraschk uploaded version 1.0c of his package leaflet leaflet is a document class to create small hand-outs (flyers) that fit on a single sheet of paper which is then folded twice. Pages are rearranged by LaTeX so that they print correctly on a single sheet -- no external script is necessary. (Works with PostScript and PDF.) CTAN update: minitoc package, version 40

On Mon, 20 Dec 2004, Jean-Pierre Drucbert uploaded version 40 of his package minitoc Location on CTAN : macros/latex/contrib/minitoc/ Licence: LPPL minitoc.sty is useful to add mini-tables-of-contents (minitocs) at the beginning of every chapter. They are also minilofs and minilots. At the part level, they are parttocs, partlofs and partlots. If the type of document does not use chapters, they are section level secttocs, sectlofs and sectlots. updates versus version 39: ======================================================================= Version #40 Added the japanese language (japanese.mld) Added the castillan language (castillan.mld) Removed the test on the presence of the multicol package in minitoc.tex, because multicol is a required package. Added a figure in minitoc.tex about the need of 3 compilations. Added some infos in minitoc.bug. Added a paragraph about problem with the appendix package. Updated minitoc.bib Added the hints option. This option is still experimental; you advice is welcome.
