FTP Service on dante.ctan.org resumed

The FTP service for the CTAN main node dante.ctan.org is working again, after replacing the ftp server software (proftpd) by another one (vsftpd). With this change, FTP uploads on dante.ctan.org are no longer possible. Uploads should be done via the web interface: http://upload.ctan.org/ For the CTAN Team Rainer Schöpf

tug.ctan.org also down due to security problem with FTP server program.

A security flaw has been found in the the FTP server program that is used at the tug.ctan.org node of CTAN, as noted earler by Rainer. Consequently I shut off this service. I expect that it will be off for a few days, for lack of time to repair it. I apologize for the inconvienence. Individuals who use HTTP would not be immediately affected by this change. Jim

A serious bug has been detecetd in proftpd: http://bugs.proftpd.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3521 As a consequence, ftp access to ftp.dante.de a.k.a. dante.ctan.org will be disabled, effective immediately. http or rsync access to dante.ctan.org are not affected. Summary description: 2D & 3D TeX-Aware Vector Graphics Language License type: lgpl Announcement text: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The -P option required by ghostscript 9.00 was added. The limits command now works correctly with reversed axes. The asyinclude command of asymptote.sty was improved so that asy source files do not need to be sent to publishers; the asy extension is now optional. A mktemp function was implemented.
