However, while fbox{egin{minipage}{linewidth}...end{minipage}} juts out into the margin, egin{boxedminipage}...end{boxedminipage} does not. Instead, it subtracts the frame's dimensions from the specified dimensions of the minipage before typesetting the minipage.
