Since version 1.0.1, the tools will use the cache file http://kyanh.net/ctan.tools//dump_files.tbz This file contains the list of all files in CTAN. It's updated daily by a cron job hosted by http://kyanh.net/. The size of file is about 3MB (compressed) & 15MB (un-compressed). The tool requires wget, lynx, gawk, wc, tar/bzip and sed program to run correctly. Some linux distribution doesnot contains lynx by default and you must install lynx manually before running this script. So this tool requires a *nix-liked environment to work. This tool was written by kyanh <xkyanh(a)gmail.com> kyanh is a member of Vietnamese TeX Users Group <http://viettug.org>. He wrote this script as he wanted a fast client to access CTAN. If you want to search for files: ctan grep -file <string> : search for files. ctan get -file <string> : download files match <string> to working directory. CTAN package update: fancyvrb

Niall Mansfield has developed a patch to the current version of the fancyvrb package, and submitted it to me (as a conduit to ctan). The patch addresses a bug in the code related to selecting lines for verbatim printing: if first selected line == last selected line (i.e., only one line was to be printed), the package failed. The new version has been installed at cambridge ctan, and should be on its way around the world. It provides two macros alphplus and Alphplus the syntax of which is the one of alph. They enable us to represent numbers up to 18,278 with lower/upper case latin letters from a to zzz or A to ZZZ. After z comes aa and so on. It is the full-featured version of the Equation Editor that comes with Microsoft Office and other products. While its mouse-centric user interface is somewhat the antithesis of TeX's, it has a number of features that may be of interest to members of the TeX community: - It works with many Windows applications that TeX does not work directly with, such as word processors, presentation programs like PowerPoint, and many more. You can even place equations in flowcharts made with programs like Visio. - It can produce TeX and LaTeX code from its equations.
